Volvo updates XC40 and EX40 models
Volvo has refreshed its 40-series models, the XC40 and EX40, with a more modern design, updated technology and enhanced safety systems. Prices in Germany start from 43,990 euros.
Volvo has unveiled updated versions of its popular 40-series models — the mild-hybrid petrol XC40 and the fully electric EX40. The changes touch on exterior design, in-car technology and safety features.
Exterior changes
The exterior design has not changed radically, but the front end now looks more expressive. The headlights have been redesigned with Matrix LED technology while retaining Volvo's signature "Thor's hammer" light shape. The grille, front bumper, hood and fenders have also been updated. At the rear, both models get new LED taillights along with a redesigned tailgate and bumper.
Interior and technology
Both models now feature a larger 11.2-inch infotainment screen running an updated version of Volvo's infotainment system. The system includes an integrated Google Gemini voice assistant, capable of helping plan routes, find information and manage messages.
Safety improvements
A new sensor and software platform adds extra radars, cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors. This enables improved automatic emergency braking and evasive steering functions, along with a new warning that alerts occupants when opening a door if a cyclist or other road user is approaching. The Pilot Assist driver assistance system now includes a lane-change assist function, while the 360-degree camera can also display a 3D view.
Powertrains and pricing
The XC40 continues to be offered with mild-hybrid petrol engines, while the electric EX40 comes in several power output levels, offering a range of up to approximately 576 kilometers on a single charge. In Germany, the XC40 starts at 43,990 euros for the version with a 163-horsepower engine, while the fully electric EX40 starts at 47,490 euros.
