VRChat won't add AI labels even though 95% of surveyed users wanted them
Virtual-world platform VRChat said after a user survey that it will not introduce tags marking AI use for now. The company is still weighing labels for human-made content and tools used.

VRChat, an app for creating and sharing virtual worlds for social interaction, has published a support post detailing the results of a user survey on artificial intelligence (AI) on the platform. Although 95 percent of respondents said they want some form of label indicating AI usage, the company stated that it will not implement any such tags at this time.
What remains under consideration
VRChat will keep weighing a "Human-authored" label for content and a "Tools used" field, but it has not reached a definitive position. It will not, however, add a tag for AI-generated content or an option to filter such content out of search results.
The company's reasoning
The platform's creators say some creators would label their work honestly, while others would try to pass off generative or AI-assisted work as fully handmade. They also foresee "sleuthing" behavior, in which users try to sniff out AI content or harass other creators, even those who are not using any AI tools.
Instead, VRChat said it would adopt changes with "alignment across the community": accurate thumbnails, better discovery tools and "quality as a core metric."
Platform background
VRChat is used in filmmaking and to build safe communities for transgender people. At the same time, the platform has been accused of hosting toxic and predatory behavior. The wording of the post suggests the company is trying to satisfy people with many different attitudes toward AI, rather than adopting a policy that could be unpopular with a particular group.
