The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) has launched a new section on the website 112.lv titled "Threat to Latvian Airspace". It contains general recommendations for the public on proper behavior in the event of a threat to Latvia's airspace.

Given the geopolitical situation in the region, these recommendations are particularly relevant. They explain what to do during a threat, where to find safe shelter, and how to reduce risks to oneself and others. VUGD compiled the materials by gathering information from the National Armed Forces, the Crisis Management Center, and other institutions.

Deputy Chief of VUGD, General Ivars Nakurts, emphasized that the recommendations are intended for every resident, regardless of their location – at home, work, educational institution, or on the road. The goal is to help people understand the basic principles to minimize risks.

The section includes information about safer shelter locations, as well as the distinguishing features of hobby and combat drones. The recommendations stress that during a threat it is crucial to follow official information, act calmly, and avoid spreading unverified news.

The importance of safe shelter is explained in detail – residents are advised to assess in advance where to take cover at home or elsewhere, preferring rooms without windows, interior spaces, or lower floors.

If a suspicious object is spotted, it must not be approached, touched, or moved. Such incidents should be immediately reported by calling 112.

Part of the materials is also available in presentation format, which can be used by municipalities, institutions, companies, NGOs, and families to explain proper actions. The section also compiles guidelines from various institutions, which will be regularly updated.

VUGD invites everyone to familiarize themselves with the recommendations on the website 112.lv and discuss them with family, colleagues, and the community. Early preparation helps reduce confusion during a threat.
