Environment service: oil products washed up on coast possibly leaked from a ship
Latvia's State Environmental Service says oil products found on the Kurzeme coastline were likely discharged from a ship, after lab tests ruled out historical contamination as the source.

Latvia's State Environmental Service (VVD) has reported that oil products discovered washed up along the Kurzeme coastline were possibly leaked from a ship.
According to the agency, laboratory analysis of the substances has ruled out the theory that the pollution stems from an old, historical source that only recently surfaced on the shore. This points to a more recent incident as the likely cause, rather than long-settled contamination resurfacing naturally.
VVD has not yet released further details on which vessel might be responsible or when the suspected discharge could have occurred, but it identifies a ship as the probable source of the pollution. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact origin and extent of the contamination.
