Wakefield Trinity produced one of the biggest surprises of the rugby league season by beating Warrington Wolves 23-10 in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, claiming their first championship since 1968.

The club, who were playing in the Championship just two years ago, were appearing in their first ever Grand Final but showed no signs of nerves, dominating the opening half under head coach Daryl Powell. Trinity built a commanding 19-0 lead, carrying the momentum they had shown in their semi-final win over Wigan Warriors.

First-half domination

Wakefield crossed for tries through Cameron Scott, Isaiah Vagana and Jazz Tevaga in the first half, while Jack Sinfield added a drop goal to extend the lead further before the break.

Warrington fight back, but too late

Warrington searched for a way back into the contest in the second half, with Arron Lindop scoring a try to offer brief hope. However, Wakefield restored control when Tom Johnstone crossed the line soon after, effectively settling the result despite Lindop adding a second try late in the game.

Jowitt kicked three goals for Wakefield, while Irwin landed one for Warrington. Warrington's Hall was sin-binned in the 43rd minute. Liam Moore refereed the match.

With the victory, Wakefield Trinity became only the sixth club in Super League history to win the title, ending a 58-year wait to be crowned champions of England once again.
