West Ham rout Wrexham to reclaim Championship top spot
West Ham scored six goals through six different players against Wrexham to return to the top of the Championship, while Wrexham's manager admitted his side's defending fell short in key moments.
West Ham secured a commanding victory over Wrexham, with six different players finding the net as the Hammers moved back to the summit of the Championship table.
Jarrod Bowen was among the scorers, netting his sixth goal of the season. He was joined on the scoresheet by Joel Piroe, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Taty Castellanos, Mohamadou Kante and Manor Solomon.
Manager's reaction
Speaking after the match, Wrexham manager Parkinson said his team had come up against an exceptional West Ham front line. He acknowledged that two goals conceded in the first half stemmed from moments his side should have handled better.
Parkinson said that visiting a confident, in-form team requires far greater defensive resilience and sharpness in key moments than his side showed. He noted that the opening 25 minutes had been fairly even, with Wrexham even getting into promising positions of their own.
However, he said basic defensive lapses ultimately proved too costly, and that a team of West Ham's quality would inevitably punish such errors. While respecting West Ham as a strong side, Parkinson added that he felt Wrexham had put in better overall performances in recent matches against Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, National League side Coventry, and Sheffield United.
