WIRED Tests: The 10 Best Handheld Vacuums of 2026
WIRED has published its list of the best handheld vacuums for 2026, testing models on various surfaces and messes.
WIRED magazine has conducted extensive testing of handheld vacuums and selected the top 10 models for 2026. The test included a range of devices, from lightweight portable units to powerful multi-functional ones.
Among the picks is the Tinkr Handheld Mini Vacuum, weighing only 1.77 pounds and featuring a 47,000-rpm motor delivering 6,000 Pa of suction. It uses a USB-C charger, convenient for car use, but runs for only 15 minutes and takes over two hours to charge. Another model, the Hoto AutoCare Plus Air Duster & Vacuum, is a multi-tool capable of vacuuming, blowing dust, and inflating items. It operates up to 35 minutes in eco mode and charges in just over an hour.
The Dyson Car+Boat is one of the most powerful, with a 0.14-gallon capacity and up to 40 minutes of runtime, backed by a 2-year warranty. Ryobi 18V One+ Performance Hand Vacuum and Ryobi 18V One+ Powered Brush Hand Vacuum stand out for long runtimes (around 25 and 40 minutes respectively) and a 3-year warranty. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is especially suitable for pet hair, featuring a motorized brush and H13 HEPA filter.
Other tested models include: Riccar Gem (corded, powerful but noisy), Tineco Go Mini (weak suction, spit out cat litter), Bissell AeroSlim (lightweight but not for big messes), Hoto AutoCare Air Duster & Vacuum (multi-functional but not best at vacuuming), and Black and Decker Dustbuster Flex (with 4-foot hose, but short battery life).
WIRED tested vacuums on carpets, hardwood, stairs, furniture, cars, and even vents, focusing on cat litter and pet hair. Experts advise paying attention to charge and usage time, power (voltage), and included attachments.
