Wrexham close in on permanent deals for Kabore and Ekomie

Wrexham are nearing the completion of two significant transfer deals as the summer window enters its final stretch. Burkina Faso international Issa Kabore is poised to leave Manchester City on a permanent basis, while French club Angers' left-back Jacques Ekomie is also expected to join the Welsh side.

Kabore, 25, made 32 appearances for Wrexham across all competitions last season and led the squad with eight assists in the Championship. Having spent seven separate loan spells away from Manchester City without ever making a senior appearance for the club, he is now set for a permanent switch to the Racecourse Ground.

The defender made a memorable start to his Wrexham career, providing two assists on his debut in a 3-2 win over Norwich City. A hamstring injury during an international break interrupted his season, but he returned to action at the Africa Cup of Nations before again becoming a regular starter.

Ekomie, 23, began his career at Bordeaux before moving to Angers in 2024, where he started the majority of the club's Ligue 1 matches last season. He had reportedly also drawn interest from Championship rivals West Ham United and Germany's Hamburg.

Squad reinforcements

Both players would join full-back Danny Imray, goalkeeper Anthony Patterson and midfielder Ben Whiteman, who have already arrived at the Racecourse Ground this summer. Ekomie's arrival would give manager Phil Parkinson further options on the left side, an area affected by injuries to Liberato Cacace since his 2025 move from Empoli.

Speaking after a draw with Watford, Parkinson described the transfer window as difficult, with several potential deals collapsing, and said there were no guarantees of further additions before the deadline on 1 September.
