Wyze has announced a new, more affordable version of its smart scale, the BodyScan, which is now available for $79.98. The device arrives seven months after the launch of the $119.98 Ultra BodyScan model, offering a $40 price reduction through several compromises.

The new scale lacks Wi-Fi connectivity but can sync measurements with Apple Health and Google Fit via Bluetooth when connected to the Wyze mobile app. It also features a simpler 4.7-inch LED display instead of a customizable LCD screen.

Despite the lower price, the Wyze Scale BodyScan retains the key feature of a retractable tethered handle with four additional electrodes. In total, the scale has eight electrodes, with the other four located in the base covered by a conductive glass surface, allowing accurate measurements without precise foot placement. When used with the handle, the scale can determine how muscle and fat are distributed across the body, along with other metrics including body weight, BMI, protein and water levels, bone mass, visceral and subcutaneous fat, and muscle mass.

Wyze claims the scale can automatically recognize and track metrics for up to eight different users and can take one-off measurements for an unlimited number of guests. While the Wyze app is not required to use the scale or track trends over time, it does allow users to export a PDF report of their body composition to share with a doctor or personal trainer.
