'X Hour in Silgale': TV show to test how Saeima candidates handle a crisis

Ahead of this year's Saeima elections, Latvian Television's show 'Aizliegtais paņēmiens' will run a game called 'X Hour in Silgale', putting parliamentary candidates through a simulated crisis situation.

Latvian Television's programme 'Aizliegtais paņēmiens' is continuing its practice of testing politicians ahead of Saeima elections. Before the previous parliamentary vote, the show staged game-based challenges revealing how representatives of different political parties cooperated with one another and what views they held on pressing public issues.

A new format this year

As this year's Saeima elections approach, the programme is preparing a new challenge — a game titled 'X Hour in Silgale'. In it, candidates for parliamentary seats will have to demonstrate how they would act and what decisions they would make when confronted with a crisis situation.

The format is designed to give voters insight into how quickly and thoughtfully politicians can respond under unexpected, time-pressured circumstances — something that can reveal more than standard pre-election debates or party programme promises. By placing candidates from different political forces in identical conditions, the exercise allows for a more objective comparison of their capacity to act under pressure.

'Aizliegtais paņēmiens' has previously attracted attention with similar formats that test politicians' statements and promises in practical settings. Detailed game rules, the list of participants and the broadcast date have not yet been announced.
