Xbox opens preorders for $900 25th anniversary bundle

Xbox has officially opened preorders for a special bundle marking the console's 25th anniversary. The package costs $900 and includes a limited-edition translucent green Xbox Series X console, a matching translucent green wireless controller, and a digital download of "Halo: Campaign Evolved."

While the price tag looks steep, a standard Series X in the same storage configuration already costs $800 without a bundled game or the special colorway. Each anniversary console is individually numbered with a unique engraving, and both the console and controller carry an Xbox 25 logo.

Limited access for now

Preorders are currently restricted to a select group described as the franchise's most dedicated fans, who are being notified by email. Everyone else will be able to place an order starting August 27 at 10AM ET. Shipping is set for November 15, nearly 25 years to the day after the original Xbox launched.

For those unwilling to spend the full amount, the anniversary controller is also available separately for $80. Xbox has additionally announced partnerships with several accessory makers producing special hardware to mark the anniversary.

Notably, the original 2001 Xbox console was not translucent green — it was black with minor green accents. The see-through green look only became associated with the brand after a special edition console released in 2004. Some members of the original design team, however, did receive translucent green consoles back in 2001, signed by Bill Gates.
