Xbox launches Mythic Achievements, its answer to PlayStation Platinum trophies

Microsoft has officially announced its new Xbox Mythic Achievements feature, which is already rolling out for testing to Xbox Insider members. The system closely mirrors Sony's PlayStation Platinum trophies, being awarded to players who have unlocked every single original achievement for a given game.

According to the Xbox team, Mythic Achievements have already been retroactively applied to eligible games that players previously completed in full, including titles from the Xbox 360 era. This means players who check their profiles may find that some of their favorite games have already reached Mythic status without any extra action required.

New tab and progress tracking

Xbox profiles will soon gain a new gaming tab dedicated to tracking both Gamerscore milestones and Mythic Achievements. The main achievements list is also being redesigned to make tracking progress toward Mythic status easier. A new progress bar will appear at the top of each game's achievement list, showing how close a player is to reaching Mythic status, along with an option to filter the list down to only the remaining original achievements still needed.

Details about Mythic Achievements leaked last week after being discovered within the code of the Xbox PC app, including a unique unlock sound effect for the new tier. The feature is entering testing just weeks after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that a platinum-trophy equivalent was coming to Xbox later this year.
