XPeng Unveils Budget EV L03 with Ferrari-like Styling and Competitive Specs

Chinese EV maker XPeng has launched its global budget model L03, priced from €35,600, featuring up to 320-mile range, fast charging, and a design reminiscent of the Ferrari Luce.

XPeng presented its first global vehicle, the L03, at a Munich event. The car will be sold in 60 countries across Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. In China, it is known as the Mona L03 under XPeng's budget sub-brand, but globally the Mona branding is dropped.

Standard features include a claimed WLTP range of 320 miles, 10-80% charge in 20 minutes, panoramic glass roof, heated and cooled massage seats, 256-color ambient lighting, a drag coefficient of 0.228, smart parking, a 15.6-inch 2.5K central screen, 27-inch HUD, AI-powered voice control, and built-in Google Maps.

Performance: top models accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds; the base Standard Range version takes 7.5 seconds. The Ultra trim offers L2++ autonomous driving (hands-off navigation) expected in Europe by 2027 via over-the-air update, but L4 autonomy is not possible due to lack of hardware redundancy. The L03 uses a camera-only system (no lidar) for autonomy, similar to Tesla's FSD.

Design-wise, the L03 shares similarities with the Ferrari Luce and Denza Z9 GT. XPeng's head of design, JuanMa López, formerly headed Ferrari exterior design from 2010 to 2018, though he was not involved in the Luce (designed by LoveFrom). Rafik Ferrag, head of creative design at XPeng, noted that entry-level cars can now achieve luxury aesthetics thanks to advanced technology.

Pricing starts at €35,600 (about $40,000), undercutting XPeng's G6 and positioning it against the Volkswagen ID.4.
