YouTube expands AI creator tools that now actively suggest content changes

At its annual Made on YouTube event, the platform unveiled expanded AI tools that increasingly tell creators what to change about their content. New features include a background AI agent monitoring channel performance and tools for testing multiple video versions.

At its annual creator-focused Made on YouTube event, YouTube announced significant updates to the suite of AI-powered creator tools first introduced in 2025. While the original lineup included thumbnail A/B testing and a chatbot for querying content performance, this year's update shifts toward handling more complex tasks on creators' behalf.

A background agent that optimizes channels

Among the most notable additions is an AI "agent" that works in the background to optimize a creator's channel. The tool scans a creator's back catalog for videos that have gained renewed relevance, connect to current news, or started trending, then suggests updated titles or thumbnails to capitalize on that momentum. According to Amjad Hanif, YouTube's vice president of creator products, the tool can also assemble brand pitches by pulling demographic and audience data from a creator's channel.

Automatic thumbnail and video testing

The upgraded agent can now generate entire thumbnails and titles based on an uploaded video's content, and it can offer feedback on thumbnails creators design themselves. A dynamic thumbnail feature lets creators upload up to three images per video, with YouTube's system automatically assigning the best-performing version to different audience segments. Creators will also be able to test three different versions of the same video — such as ones with different intros or structures — shown to small audience segments. Creators can choose the winning version themselves, or YouTube will do so automatically after seven days.

Where AI assistance crosses a line

AI use among content creators has become a contentious topic; earlier this summer, creator Hank Green faced backlash after revealing he used AI for video research. Hanif said the issue arises not when AI boosts efficiency, but when tools take over actual creative work like scriptwriting or filming. Asked whether YouTube has data showing these tools improve creator success metrics, the company declined to share specifics, with Hanif saying the main benefit is time saved.
