Thieves cut hole in wall to break into Riga 'Maxima' store

An unusual burglary took place at the "Maxima X" store on Liepājas Street 76 in Riga's Bieriņi neighborhood on the night of August 31. According to the TV programme "Degpunktā", the intruders did not enter through a window or door, but instead cut a hole in the wall.

"Maxima Latvija" representative Katrīna Kaire confirmed the theft occurred that night, and that the burglars entered the warehouse area from outside, without reaching the store's shopping floor.

Possible inside knowledge

Although company representatives declined to share further details, citing an ongoing police investigation, the circumstances suggest the perpetrators may have had prior knowledge of the premises. This would explain how they knew exactly where to cut through the wall while avoiding triggering the alarm system.

The incident was captured on the store's security cameras, and the footage has already been handed over to the State Police for further investigation.

The "Maxima" representative did not specify the extent of the losses. However, according to "Degpunktā", unofficial information suggests the theft targeted the alcohol storage section specifically.
