Maria Zakharova, the official spokeswoman for Russia's Foreign Ministry, sparked outrage with her cynical reaction to the massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv on the night of July 2. The attack killed at least 20 civilians and wounded approximately 100 others.

On her Telegram channel, Zakharova responded to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko's description of the event as a 'terrible night' and the largest attack on the city to date. The Russian official cynically remarked that Klitschko had finally managed to articulate clearly, but added that the strikes were directed at 'military-strategic targets' used by the 'Kyiv regime' to kill peaceful civilians.

Despite Zakharova's claims, Ukrainian authorities and emergency services reported extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. Multi-story residential buildings, private houses, and other non-military structures were destroyed or damaged in the attack.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the attack was one of the most massive in recent times. Air defense systems managed to intercept 48 missiles and 476 drones of various types, but the main strike was aimed directly at the capital.
