“Zaļā josta” takes over management of Temu textile waste in Latvia
Waste management company “Zaļā josta” expands cooperation with e-commerce platform Temu, starting to handle producer responsibility obligations for textile products sold on the platform in Latvia.

SIA “Zaļā josta” will now perform registration and reporting duties under the producer responsibility system for textile products sold on the e-commerce platform Temu in Latvia. Company board chairman Jānis Lapsa emphasizes that involving more market participants in the responsibility system helps increase collection volumes, promote waste sorting, and reduce the amount of textiles ending up in landfills.
Residents of Latvia can dispose of unwanted clothing purchased on Temu at any of the 432 textile collection points across the country. “Zaļā josta’s” partner, waste management company CleanR, has installed over 350 textile containers, collecting more than 1,500 tonnes of textiles last year.
Temu states that expanding the partnership simplifies compliance with local environmental requirements for sellers. The platform aims to provide practical guidance and resources to help sellers meet extended producer responsibility obligations. Temu has already partnered with over 60 licensed producer responsibility organizations across the European Union, covering categories such as packaging, batteries, waste electrical and electronic equipment, and textiles.
In April this year, “Zaļā josta” and Temu signed an agreement for the management of packaging and electronic waste; the current expansion adds textiles to the scope. Temu is a global e-commerce platform operating in more than 90 markets worldwide.
