Grass snake found hiding in wires behind TV in Estonia; rescuers relocate it to river
On the morning of August 4, rescue workers in Lääne-Nigula helped remove a grass snake that had crawled behind a television and settled among the cables.
Residents of Rannaküla village in Lääne-Nigula Parish received an unexpected visitor on the morning of 4 August. A snake had entered the house and made its way behind the television, prompting the homeowners to call for professional help.
The Lääne Rescue Centre’s press office reported that the emergency line received the call at 10:13. The caller explained that the reptile was behind the TV and estimated its length at about 90 centimetres. Since the person could not tell whether it was a viper or a grass snake, rescuers were dispatched to the scene.
When the crew arrived, they discovered that the snake was in fact a grass snake, comfortably nestled among the wiring behind the television. Using special tongs, the rescuers carefully pulled the animal out of its hiding place and carried it to a nearby river, where it was released unharmed.
Neither the residents nor the snake were injured during the incident. The rescue service reminded the public that when encountering a snake, it is best to stay calm and call for assistance rather than attempt to handle the animal on one’s own.
