Zeekr 9X Owner Faces Unexpected Smart Feature Lockout at Border
While traveling from China to Europe, a Zeekr 9X owner experienced an unpleasant surprise when the car's smart functions were blocked for over 30 hours upon crossing the Kazakhstan border.
A Zeekr 9X owner's journey from China to Europe turned unexpectedly complicated when the vehicle's smart systems suddenly restricted access to several functions upon entering Kazakhstan. According to reports from "Carnewschina," the owner, who had purchased the car six months earlier for approximately 500,000 yuan (nearly €65,000), began the trip on July 8. On July 16, while crossing the Kazakhstan border, the vehicle's system activated security restrictions, resulting in the navigation, electronic fuel cap, and trunk being unavailable for over 30 hours.
The owner stated that before the trip, he had performed maintenance and informed dealer representatives about the planned cross-border journey, but received no warning about potential restrictions. He described the situation as a "partial paralysis," as several everyday essential functions were no longer accessible.
Zeekr representatives later explained that when the car is in a foreign country, it automatically activates a built-in security mechanism. This mechanism is designed to protect the vehicle from theft and unauthorized export, as well as to ensure compliance with international import and export regulations. Initially, the system displays a warning, but if the location does not change, a permanent restriction notice appears on the screen.
The manufacturer emphasized that the safety mechanism does not affect the car's main driving functions—engine operation, drivetrain, and brake system. Therefore, the vehicle is not completely locked and can still be driven. Additionally, the charging port can be opened manually, and the fuel cap can be unlocked by holding the hazard light button in the cabin for five seconds.
