Zelenskyy Calls to Unblock €6 Billion from European Peace Facility for Ukraine's Defense
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the European Council to unblock €6 billion from the European Peace Facility, emphasizing the funds are needed for air defense, long-range munitions, and energy infrastructure protection.

In a speech to the European Council, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the immediate unblocking of €6 billion from the European Peace Facility. He stressed that these funds are vital for Ukraine's defense and could be allocated to proven effective capabilities such as air defense systems, long-range projectiles, and other combat-proven equipment.
Zelenskyy highlighted that the money could also be used to protect Ukraine's energy infrastructure. He expressed hope to end the war by winter through diplomacy and pressure on Russia, but acknowledged the need to prepare a winter aid package. This package should include an energy component (gas, diesel, necessary equipment) and at least 300 missiles for the winter period.
Earlier reports suggested that Hungary had unblocked €6.6 billion from the fund, but the European Commission has not confirmed this information.
