Zelensky urges Latin America to help repair Ukraine's power grid
At a summit in Spain, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American leaders to supply transformers, cables and generators to repair infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed at a summit in Spain to Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American leaders to help restore Ukraine's electricity network, which has been damaged by Russian attacks. He asked for transformers, power cables, generators and electronic equipment.
Who could supply what
Zelensky named specific countries as potential suppliers. According to him, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia could provide transformers, Chile could supply power cables, and Spain could deliver electrical equipment and generators.
He stressed that the supplies must be compatible with Ukraine's grid. To speed up deliveries, he urged governments to set up direct contacts with manufacturers.
Meetings on the sidelines
At the summit, the Ukrainian leader was seen talking with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and taking part in talks alongside Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Honduran President Nasry Asfura and other international leaders. Zelensky also met Spain's King Felipe VI at the Zarzuela Palace, where he was welcomed together with Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles.
Why it matters
The appeal put Ukraine's energy needs at the centre of the discussions and underlined the value of cooperation beyond Europe, as Russian strikes continue to damage essential infrastructure. Zelensky emphasised that rebuilding the power network requires not only international support but also rapid access to specialised equipment.
