Zelenskyy Says He Is Satisfied With Results of 40-Day Operation Against Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is satisfied with the outcome of a 40-day operation targeting Russian logistics and warned Moscow against continuing strikes on Ukraine's supply lines. He said Russia's losses reached roughly $12 billion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview for the national joint 24/7 newscast on August 8 that he was satisfied with the results of a 40-day operation aimed at pressuring Russia.
After Russian forces began striking Ukrainian logistics, Ukraine developed a new logistical approach and responded in kind. Zelenskyy said Russia's losses from this response were substantial, estimated at around a trillion roubles, or roughly $12 billion.
The operation involved multiple Ukrainian agencies, including the Armed Forces, the Special Operations Forces, Defence Intelligence, the Security Service, and the Foreign Intelligence Service. Zelenskyy said Ukraine now coordinates long-range and mid-range strikes across these bodies.
Warning to Russia
The president noted that Russia has long allowed itself to strike non-military targets, while Ukraine focuses on military objectives. He warned that if Russia continues attacking Ukrainian logistics, Ukraine will use its understanding of Russia's vulnerabilities in response.
Zelenskyy explained that logistics disruptions affect everyday life and routines that Ukrainians have already been forced to give up since the start of the war. He said that when goods fail to reach ordinary consumers in Russia because of disrupted logistics, Russians will begin to feel the impact themselves.
He also noted that Russia has built three layers of air defence around Moscow to protect electricity and energy facilities, aware that Ukraine will retaliate. However, he said any air defence system is eventually depleted, and Ukraine will keep finding ways to make Russia feel the consequences.
Zelenskyy announced on June 25 that he had approved a 40-day operation by the Security Service of Ukraine targeting Russia to push it toward ending the war. On August 3, Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov urged people not to fixate on deadlines regarding the operation. On August 4, Zelenskyy said he had approved new operations by the Security Service.
