Zelenskyy meets Serbian PM in Belgrade: winter preparations and reconstruction on the agenda

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut in Belgrade on 8 August, according to a post by Zelenskyy on X reported by European Pravda.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy briefed the Serbian premier on the consequences of Russia's missile and drone strikes on Ukraine, including a large-scale attack carried out just the night before.

Economic ties and energy support

The two leaders discussed joint economic and logistics initiatives in detail, including development of the Danube Corridor and efforts to strengthen ties between Ukraine, the Western Balkans and the European Union.

Winter preparedness was also on the table. Zelenskyy thanked Serbia for its decision to provide €2 million to support Ukraine's energy sector.

Reconstruction cooperation

The talks also touched on Serbia's role in rebuilding Ukraine, with Zelenskyy expressing gratitude for Serbia's willingness to help restore one of the Ukrainian cities damaged by the war.

Earlier, Zelenskyy had also met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, discussing concrete steps to strengthen infrastructure resilience along with economic development, reconstruction and job creation in both countries. After a call with Vučić back in May, Zelenskyy said the two leaders saw potential for further developing relations between Ukraine and Serbia.
