Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree appointing Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov as his non-staff adviser on defence technology development. Beskrestnov previously served as an adviser to Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

Zelenskyy stated that he had a detailed discussion with Beskrestnov about the critical technological aspects of defence. He emphasised that technology saves the lives of Ukrainian warriors and brings the war back to Russia, and that it is crucial to respond promptly to military innovations introduced by the aggressor's army.

Besktrestnov later said that the president offered him a position in the new Ministry of Defence team, but he declined. He explained that he is part of Fedorov's team and for moral reasons cannot remain at the ministry without Mykhailo. However, the war continues, and with his knowledge he cannot stand aside. The president is giving him the opportunity and authority to strengthen defence capabilities at the highest level as the president's adviser on defence technology development.

Beskrestnov stressed that the appointment has nothing to do with politics, but is an opportunity to influence technological processes in the defence sector, now not only within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In January, Beskrestnov became an adviser to then Defence Minister Fedorov on defence technology. Fedorov, upon leaving his post, summarised his tenure and said he will continue his mission to defeat the enemy through asymmetry, speed of innovation, and the power of organisation.
