Zelensky arrives in US for UN General Assembly and talks with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, together with his diplomatic team and First Lady Olena Zelenska, has arrived in New York to take part in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and a series of bilateral meetings. Zelensky announced the trip on social media, with the news also reported by the Ukrinform agency.

Packed multi-day schedule

On Monday evening, Zelensky was scheduled to hold talks with a group of US lawmakers and French President Emmanuel Macron. On Tuesday morning he laid flowers at the September 9 Memorial, with several bilateral meetings planned throughout the day, including with US President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, Zelensky will take part in the International Crimea Platform Summit, address the UN Security Council session on the Ukraine issue, and speak at the General Assembly session. In total, around 20 meetings are planned during his time in New York — with Trump, European leaders, US senators and members of Congress, heads of international organizations, and representatives of leading American companies and think tanks.

New drone agreement

The Ukrainian delegation has prepared a new agreement in the drone sector for signing, called the "Drone Deal."

First Lady's agenda

Olena Zelenska will speak to students and faculty at Columbia University and present the results of the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen at the UN venue. She also has meetings planned with American business representatives, the President of the World Bank, and the wife of the British Prime Minister.

The visit follows a phone call between Zelensky and Trump on September 20, during which the two agreed to hold a personal meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
