Zelensky Meets Trump Envoys Witkoff and Kushner in Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed US President Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in central Kyiv on Sunday, marking their first visit to Ukraine as part of efforts to settle the war.

The meeting followed talks the two envoys held in the Kremlin on September 5 with the Russian side. Commenting on those talks, a White House representative told Radio Liberty that the parties had discussed specific plans for next steps, which would be announced in the coming weeks. The same representative said the envoys were looking forward to equally productive meetings in Ukraine on September 6.

Background

Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, earlier said Vladimir Putin told the US envoys during Saturday's talks that he was confident of achieving the war's goals. The White House described the talks with the Russian side as "substantive" and pledged to announce next steps in the near future.
