Zelensky Urges Fixes to Sanctions Loopholes for Russian Missile Manufacturers

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for immediate action to close loopholes in sanctions against Russian producers of ballistic missiles. In his statement, he pointed out that the majority of the 17 major Russian companies involved in missile production are still able to avoid restrictions. They achieve this by using foreign jurisdictions, which allows them to operate outside the reach of currently imposed measures.

Zelensky stressed that the situation requires particular urgency. He explained that Ukraine currently does not have enough missiles that can intercept Russian ballistic weapons. This lack of interceptor systems makes Ukraine more vulnerable and increases the importance of cutting off the supply chain and financial flows that enable Russian missile manufacturing.

The president’s remarks suggest that existing sanctions are not as effective as intended. Even though various restrictions have been introduced, companies continue to find ways around them. The use of foreign jurisdictions appears to be a major obstacle that needs to be addressed through better coordination among countries and stricter monitoring of financial and corporate activities.
