Zelenskyy promises 'key talks' after meeting with commanders

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in his address that he will have 'key conversations' on July 20 after meeting with military commanders. He said he continues talks with experienced Ukrainian military leaders, including Mykhailo Drapatyi, Volodymyr Horbatiuk, and Oleh Apostol.

Zelenskyy noted that these were briefings on the front-line situation and a broader discussion on the state of the war. 'It is important to assess our further strategy, our Ukrainian active actions, how to force Russia to end this war with a peace that is dignified for Ukraine and with guaranteed security. This has various components, and I want to hear how commanders at all levels in our defense forces see this. Tomorrow I have key conversations. Ukraine must achieve its goals, and it will,' the president said.

On July 18, Zelenskyy met with former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, promising that 'decisions regarding the army will be worked out.' Protests demanding Fedorov's reinstatement and Syrskyi's dismissal took place in Kyiv and other cities on July 16, 17, and 18. A third day of protests was announced in Kyiv for the evening of July 18.

The president heard reports from combat commanders and announced a special Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff meeting amid the decision to replace the defense minister. On July 19, Zelenskyy met with Mykhailo Drapatyi, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; Deputy Chief of the General Staff Volodymyr Horbatiuk; and Oleh Apostol, Commander of the Airborne Assault Forces.
