Zelensky: Sanctions gaps let Russian missile producers evade restrictions
The Ukrainian president says most of the 17 key Russian companies producing ballistic missiles can still circumvent sanctions by operating through foreign jurisdictions, and closing these loopholes is urgent.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has drawn attention to significant gaps in international sanctions. According to him, most of the 17 key Russian companies involved in producing ballistic missiles are still able to circumvent restrictions. They do so by operating through foreign jurisdictions, which allows these firms to continue their activities despite existing sanctions.
Zelensky stressed that closing these loopholes is particularly urgent. Ukraine currently lacks missiles capable of intercepting Russian ballistic weapons. More effective sanctions against the manufacturers could therefore reduce Russia's military potential and contribute to Ukraine's security.
The president's remarks indicate that Western sanctions have not fully achieved their intended effect. Although major Russian defense industry enterprises are on the lists, their ability to work through international structures weakens the impact of the measures. This issue calls for coordinated international action to eliminate the remaining opportunities to evade sanctions.
