Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on social media platform X that he had a phone call with US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron following the G7 summit. Zelensky described it as an important coordination call that could change a lot.
Zelensky thanked Trump for his attention to Ukraine and readiness to help bring peace closer, and thanked Macron for the excellent organization of the summit and unwavering strong cooperation.
Meanwhile, Trump after the G7 summit said he had "very good conversations" with Putin and Zelensky, noting that both want to end the war but "don't know how." The US president also raised the possibility of renewing sanctions on Russian oil after an exception the US introduced amid high global energy prices due to the war with Iran. Additionally, Trump promised to consider Ukraine's request for air defense licenses.
