Zelensky agrees to energy ceasefire but sets his own conditions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on his official Facebook account that his country is ready to support the energy ceasefire proposed by Donald Trump, while attaching a key condition to its implementation.

Ukraine says it initiated the idea

Zelensky recalled that Ukraine itself had proposed such an arrangement, aimed at halting attacks on critical infrastructure — primarily energy facilities and food supply chains. However, the president expressed doubt about Russia's genuine willingness to honor any agreement.

A condition for partners

According to Zelensky, Ukraine is prepared to hold back its own strikes only if international partners can guarantee that Russia will truly refrain from attacking Ukraine's power grid, other energy facilities, critical infrastructure and food supply movement.

Demand for a long-term deal

The Ukrainian leader stressed that his country would only agree to a ceasefire that is reliable, long-term and has a real impact on people's lives. He warned against an arrangement that would collapse once Russia had held its planned "elections" and used the pause to temporarily ease tensions around fuel supplies.

Zelensky also reiterated that the war started by Russia must end, noting that a ceasefire covering critical infrastructure could become a genuine first step toward stopping the bloodshed. He concluded by saying Ukraine expects concrete action from its partners.
