Zelensky: he would go to Moscow only "with a missile"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again dismissed the idea of holding negotiations with Russia in its capital, Moscow. The proposal was previously put forward by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, but Kyiv has rejected it again.

Speaking in New York, Zelensky stated that he would travel to Moscow only "with a missile" — a pointed remark underlining that Ukraine does not view the capital of the country that launched the war of aggression as an acceptable venue for talks.

A repeated rejection

This is not the first time the Ukrainian leader has publicly ruled out Moscow as a possible location for negotiations. Zelensky's comment shows that disagreements between Kyiv and Moscow over the format and location of any potential peace process remain a significant obstacle to talks moving forward.

The question of where eventual negotiations between Ukraine and Russia might take place has long been a point of contention. Kyiv has repeatedly stressed that it cannot trust direct contacts with Russia on its own territory, while Moscow has continued to push proposals that would see talks held in the Russian capital itself.
