Traffic restrictions expected in central Riga for Home Guard's 35th anniversary events
Central Riga will see traffic and parking restrictions around events marking the Latvian Home Guard's 35th anniversary on August 23. Restrictions begin as early as August 22.

Riga will host ceremonial events on August 23 marking the 35th anniversary of the National Guard (Zemessardze) of the Republic of Latvia. The events will take place at Freedom Monument Square, the square by the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, and the Esplanade. Because of the celebrations, several streets in central Riga will face parking and traffic restrictions.
Parking bans
Stopping and parking will be prohibited along several street sections. On Zigfrīda Annas Meierovica Boulevard, between Smilšu Street and Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street, the ban will apply from 8:00 on August 22 until 19:00 on August 23. On the 11 November Embankment, between Riga Castle and Muitas Street, and on Aspazijas Boulevard, between the Latvian National Opera and Ballet building and Freedom Square, restrictions will be in effect from 17:00 on August 22 until 19:00 on August 23. The ban also covers a 50-metre stretch on the right side of Zigfrīda Annas Meierovica Boulevard heading from Freedom Square toward Smilšu Street. Vehicles left in restricted areas may be relocated to another permitted parking spot if necessary.
Short-term traffic closures
In addition to the parking bans, traffic on Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street near the Latvian National Museum of Art will be briefly closed on August 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 and from 17:00 to 19:00, during the placement and loading of armoured vehicles for the event. Public transport delays are possible during these windows, and residents are advised to plan their movements around the city in advance.
