Latvian soldiers assist victims after serious road accident near Tīnūži–Koknese highway

On Friday, September 19, soldiers of the Bridging Company of the National Guard's 54th Combat Support Battalion were returning to their base in Ogre after training exercises on the Daugava River. While driving along the P80 Tīnūži–Koknese highway, they stopped at a red traffic light that had been installed due to road repair works.

At that same moment, in the opposite lane just before the repair section, a serious traffic accident occurred — a truck crashed into vehicles that were waiting at the traffic light.

Soldiers responded immediately

Nine soldiers of the National Armed Forces immediately went to help the victims. Emergency medical services were called, the condition of the injured was assessed, and duties were divided among the soldiers. They provided first aid to the injured based on the knowledge and skills gained through their service, and continuously monitored their condition until paramedics arrived at the scene.

At the same time, the remaining soldiers of the bridging company cordoned off the accident site and stopped traffic in both directions, ensuring a safe environment for providing assistance and preventing additional risks to other road users.

The incident was reported by the Latvian Army on its Facebook profile, noting that the soldiers' quick and coordinated actions helped ensure the injured received necessary assistance before emergency services arrived. In its statement, the army wished all those injured in the accident a successful and speedy recovery.
