Soldiers returning from training step in to help after serious crash in Ogre region

A serious traffic accident occurred in the Ogre region when a truck crashed into passenger cars that were waiting at a temporary traffic light set up due to road repair works. At the time, soldiers from the National Guard's 54th Combat Support Battalion Bridge-Laying Company happened to be nearby, returning to their unit's base in Ogre after training exercises on the Daugava river. They had stopped at the same traffic light in the opposite lane.

According to information released by the National Armed Forces, when the crash happened, nine soldiers immediately went to help those injured. They called the Emergency Medical Service, assessed the condition of the injured, and divided tasks among themselves. Using skills and knowledge gained during their military service, the soldiers provided first aid to the injured and continuously monitored their condition until medical personnel arrived at the scene.

Meanwhile, the remaining soldiers present cordoned off the accident site and stopped traffic in both directions to ensure a safe environment for providing aid.

Soldiers' response praised

The National Guard emphasized that the soldiers' fast and coordinated actions helped ensure the injured received necessary assistance while waiting for emergency services to arrive. Representatives of the Latvian Army wished the injured a swift and successful recovery.
