Zemgale Team Surprises but RFS Secures Late Win
In the Latvian women's football league, 'Iecava'/'Olaine' put up a fierce fight before losing 2-3 to RFS.

Today's Latvian women's football championship match saw an unexpectedly tight contest as the combined team of 'Iecava' and 'Olaine' hosted league runners-up RFS. Despite losing 7-0 in the first round, the Zemgale side showed much stronger form this time.
RFS took the lead late in the first half through Ukrainian midfielder Yana Shchura, who beat goalkeeper Katrina Bunika. However, early in the second half, 'Iecava'/'Olaine' struck twice in four minutes: Jekaterina Goruzaya and Patricija Brazauska scored to make it 2-1. The lead lasted only seven minutes before Anastasija Cemirtane equalized for RFS. The winning goal came in the 67th minute from Ance Daibe, securing RFS's second place in the standings.
Next Saturday, RFS will face unbeaten league leaders 'Riga' in a derby, while 'Iecava'/'Olaine' play 'Rīgas Futbola skola' on July 19.
