Latvian minister moves to again split National Botanical Garden from Nature Conservation Agency
Less than a year after the National Botanical Garden was merged into the Nature Conservation Agency, new sector minister Edgars Tavars wants to reverse the decision and separate the garden again.
Latvian Television (LTV) reports that the same ministry has made two opposite decisions on the National Botanical Garden's institutional affiliation within less than a year.
In January, the National Botanical Garden (NBD) was merged into the Nature Conservation Agency (DAP). At the time, officials justified the move by promising less bureaucracy and more efficient management.
New minister, reversed course
Now the newly appointed sector minister, Edgars Tavars of the Union of Greens and Farmers... actually, Tavars represents the "United List" party, wants to separate the National Botanical Garden from the Nature Conservation Agency once again. He is citing the same arguments used to justify the original merger — reduced bureaucracy and more effective management.
As a result, within less than a year, two contradictory decisions have been made regarding the institution's affiliation, each justified with similar stated goals.
