Farmers Urge Shoppers to Choose Local Products Before Midsummer Celebrations
The Farmers' Saeima association calls on consumers to buy Latvian-grown and produced food for the Midsummer table to support local farms facing rising costs.

As the Līgo (Midsummer) holidays approach, the association “Farmers' Saeima” encourages residents to choose products grown and made in Latvia. The organization emphasizes that this choice is crucial support for local farmers who are dealing with increasing costs. In recent years, fuel, electricity, and labor have become more expensive, and producers must compete with cheaper imported goods.
Juris Lazdiņš, chairman of the association's board, points out that the consumer's decision in favor of a local product becomes more significant each year. He urges people to select Latvian cheese, bread, meat, vegetables, berries, kvass, and beer for the festive table. Buying directly from farmers – at markets, country stores, or farms – not only supports a specific farm but also helps maintain jobs in the regions and boosts the Latvian economy as a whole.
The “Farmers' Saeima” reminds that during the holidays many people travel to the countryside, making it a good time to visit local farms and small shops. Such choices ensure fresh produce and a larger share of the payment goes directly to the producer.
