'Farmers' Parliament': This year’s agriculture sector cautiously optimistic
Valters Zelčs, foreign policy expert of the association 'Zemnieku saeima', said that this year Latvian farmers have not faced significant weather concerns, leading to a cautiously optimistic outlook for the sector.

The agricultural sector in Latvia is showing a cautiously optimistic mood this year. According to Valters Zelčs, foreign policy expert of the association 'Zemnieku saeima' (Farmers' Parliament), speaking on Latvian Television's 'Rīta Panorāma' program, unlike previous years, farmers have not experienced major weather-related worries. There has been no pronounced drought or excessive moisture, which in the past caused significant crop losses.
Zelčs emphasized that the stable weather conditions have allowed for better planning with lower risk, positively affecting the overall situation in the sector. However, he cautioned against over-optimism, as many factors such as market fluctuations and input prices still create uncertainty. Therefore, the assessment is cautious, noting a positive direction but necessitating continued vigilance.
'Zemnieku saeima' represents Latvian farmers' interests and regularly provides assessments on industry developments. This year, according to Zelčs, might be calmer than previous ones, when extreme weather often caused headaches for farmers.
