Flashes After the Hottest Day

In the early hours of Friday, lightning strikes lit up the sky across the United Kingdom as thunderstorms fueled by intense heat swept through the country. Social media footage showed flashes over iconic landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle, as well as over the cities of Bristol and Manchester. Parts of Northern Ireland and Wales were also affected.

The heat is expected to ease over the weekend. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms for Scotland and parts of northern England, cautioning about potential flash floods and disruptions. This follows what was reported as the hottest day of the year in some areas, with temperatures reaching high levels.

Additional lightning strikes were recorded elsewhere, and residents are advised to stay cautious as further storms may occur. Forecasters indicate that weather conditions will gradually return to normal, but the risk remains elevated for now.
