Yorkshire terrier chases bear up a tree in North Carolina yard
In the US state of North Carolina, a video shows a small Yorkshire terrier named Benny driving a large bear up a tree in his home yard. The dog's owner is not pleased, saying it could have ended tragically.
A video recorded in the US state of North Carolina shows a small Yorkshire terrier named Benny confronting a far larger animal, a bear, in the yard of his home. The clip quickly spread online and drew admiration from viewers, but the dog's owner takes a much more sceptical view of it.
What the video shows
In the footage, Benny runs wildly around the wild animal and barks loudly. The bear appears to have been puzzled by such fearless behaviour from a tiny opponent. It hesitated and watched the dog for a while, then sought safety by climbing a tree.
The owner's reaction
Although viewers praised the little dog's courage, Benny's owner is not at all happy about what his four-legged companion did. He understands that the incident could have ended very badly. Had the bear turned aggressive or tried to defend itself, the Yorkshire terrier would have had no chance of surviving.
Fortunately, this time the story ended well: the predator chose to retreat, and the dog was unharmed. The video was published on 25 October 2026.
