North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui stated on Tuesday, July 21, during a visit to Moscow that Pyongyang will continue to back Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to a statement released by North Korean state news agency KCNA, the country's support for Russia's domestic and foreign policy is unwavering.

KCNA clarified that Russia’s actions are aimed at eliminating the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine and protecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international justice. In response, Moscow assured full support for North Korea’s sovereignty.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the two nations have deepened cooperation. North Korea has supplied soldiers and weapons to Russia, receiving food and technology in return. In a video released on July 19, President Vladimir Putin thanked North Korea for its assistance.

South Korean media speculate that Choe’s visit may pave the way for a trip to Russia by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the near future.
