North Korea launches another ballistic missile toward Sea of Japan
North Korea fired a ballistic missile from the Wonsan area on Wednesday, which landed in the Sea of Japan, South Korean and Japanese authorities reported. It marks the second such launch in under a week.
South Korea's military said that at around 6 a.m. local time Wednesday, midnight Latvian time, it detected North Korea launching a ballistic missile from the Wonsan area, with the projectile heading toward the Sea of Japan.
Japan's Defense Ministry also confirmed the development, saying North Korea had likely fired a ballistic missile into the sea. The ministry noted the missile fell into the water, without specifying further details on its trajectory or type.
Second launch within a week
Japanese officials pointed out that this was already the second missile launch by North Korea in less than a week, suggesting continued military activity in the region. Neither Seoul nor Tokyo provided additional details about the missile's type or the distance it traveled.
Both South Korea and Japan continue to monitor the situation, as such launches are typically viewed as a regional security concern affecting neighboring countries and the wider Pacific region.
