According to media reports, Trae Young has agreed to a four-year contract with the Washington Wizards. He had one season left on his previous deal at $49 million, but he exercised his player option to decline it and become a free agent. The new contract is valued at approximately $212 million — the maximum amount he could receive from another team.
Young started the season with the Atlanta Hawks alongside Kristaps Porziņģis, but was traded to the Wizards in January, while Porziņģis landed with the Golden State Warriors. Due to injuries, he played ten games for Atlanta and five for Washington. He averaged 17.9 points and 8.0 assists per game.
Young spent seven and a half seasons with the Hawks. Last year, he led the NBA with an average of 11.6 assists per game.
