Reports: Second pilot on Flydubai plane allegedly tried to crash it
An Israeli official says a disaster was averted aboard a plane that made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, with a probe underway into whether one pilot tried to seize control to crash it.
A senior Israeli official, whose name has not been disclosed, said that a serious disaster was prevented aboard a Flydubai aircraft. The claim was reported by Times of Israel, citing Israel's Channel 12.
According to the official, an investigation is underway into the plane's second pilot, as growing evidence suggests he attempted to seize control of the aircraft with the intent of crashing it.
Passengers in civilian clothes
Channel 12 also reported that another group of pilots, dressed in civilian clothing, was aboard the aircraft. According to the outlet, it was these passengers who prevented the pilot from taking control of the plane.
Emergency landing in Saudi Arabia
On the morning of September 30, a commercial flight carrying 180 passengers en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv issued an emergency signal while changing course over Saudi Arabian territory. The aircraft later landed at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia.
