Spider-Man and The Odyssey are splitting IMAX screens after record-breaking weekend
IMAX announced that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will join The Odyssey in select digital IMAX theaters across North America starting August 6. The two films, along with others, helped produce the biggest box office weekend in history.

On Monday, IMAX announced that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be added to the schedule at select digital IMAX theaters in North America, starting August 6. This means the latest Spider-Man installment will play alongside Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which has been dominating IMAX screens for the past three weekends. The Odyssey's exclusive IMAX run is now ending, so the two films will share the spotlight.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already pulled in $355 million since hitting theaters on July 31. That makes it the second-biggest opening in North America since 2019's Avengers: Endgame. The Odyssey, which premiered earlier, still managed to earn $51 million this weekend, showing its staying power. Combined with Toy Story 5, Moana, and Minions & Monsters, the overall weekend box office reached a massive $430 million, according to Variety.
Even with the new competition, The Odyssey isn't going away. It will continue showing in IMAX theaters around the world. So far, it has collected $221 million globally in IMAX venues, making July the most profitable month in IMAX's history. IMAX also notes that The Odyssey is the only film to have achieved several weekends with global earnings exceeding $40 million.
