Over the past 10–12 years, fish processing companies have doubled their sales volumes, driven by new markets and rising demand for canned fish. However, the sector faces a labor shortage that prevents further production increases.

Latvia's fish processing industry has experienced significant growth over the last ten to twelve years, with companies doubling their sales volumes. This expansion has been fueled by entry into new markets and a steady increase in demand for canned fish products.

Despite this positive trend, the sector is held back by a shortage of labor. Companies report that, although demand remains high, they are unable to ramp up production due to a lack of skilled and available workers. The labor shortfall raises concerns about future growth, as the industry cannot fully capitalize on market opportunities without sufficient staffing.
