The Latvian magazine "Pastaiga" has released its latest issue featuring a women's achievement list that this year includes 161 Latvian women from culture, business, science, medicine, education, fashion and other fields. This marks the ninth year the editorial team has compiled such a list, an initiative that began in 2017 when a separate women's category was first introduced within a broader Latvian leaders' ranking.

According to the editors, the understanding of achievement has shifted over the years. While leadership was once measured by position or public recognition, the focus now lies on influence, the ideas introduced, and the ability to help others advance.

How the list is compiled

The list reflects the subjective assessments of 18 experts from various fields, each asked to name their favorites across 12 defined industry categories. The experts include entrepreneurs, journalists, doctors, architects and cultural figures.

This year a new category was added — "Quiet Leader" — recognizing individuals whose work receives less public visibility but carries significant weight.

Notable names and fields

Several names recurred across multiple categories. In business and art, Zane Čulkstēna, founder of "ERDA" and the "kim?" gallery, was highlighted. In architecture, both Zaiga Gaile and Zane Tetere-Šulce were recognized. In fashion and design, Sabīne Skarule, founder of the "Skarule" brand, received praise. In law and public administration, the work of Constitutional Court chairwoman Ineta Ziemele was emphasized, while the "Quiet Leader" category named Gunda Reire and Liene Krištobane.

The complete list of all 161 nominated women is published in the September issue of "Pastaiga" magazine.
