ZZS names Viktors Valainis as its new PM candidate ahead of 15th Saeima election

With less than a month until Latvia's 15th Saeima election, the Union of Greens and Farmers has put forward Viktors Valainis as its candidate for prime minister, replacing the usual Aivars Lembergs. He discussed party values and the political situation in an interview for the show "Kas notiek Latvijā?".

Latvia's 15th Saeima election is less than a month away, and the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) is again among the contenders. This time, however, the party's candidate for prime minister has changed — instead of the usual Aivars Lembergs, the role has gone to Viktors Valainis, a member of the union's board and chairman of the Latvian Green Party's board.

On September 4, Valainis appeared on Latvian Television's pre-election interview series "Kas notiek Latvijā?", where he addressed several current political and economic topics.

Šķēle's influence and coalition changes

One of the topics raised was the growing influence of Andris Šķēle in both the economy and politics, linked to the return of the Apvienotais saraksts party to the ruling coalition. Valainis commented on this development and its possible significance going forward.

Values and the economy

The interview also touched on what ZZS understands by "traditional values," as well as on the role of economic policy in the party's work and its pre-election promises. Valainis explained how economic issues fit into the union's platform.

The interview was part of LTV's pre-election program series, in which representatives of various parties discuss issues ahead of the upcoming 15th Saeima election.
