16-Inch MacBook Pro With M5 Max Chip Hits Its Lowest Price Yet

In the US, the 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 Max chip, 36 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage now costs $3,499. That is the lowest price this configuration has sold for, and it comes a week before a rumored new generation is expected to be announced.

Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro laptop with the M5 Max chip, 36 GB of memory and 2 TB of storage has become cheaper than ever. According to technology outlet Wired, it is priced at $3,499, which is 20 percent below the retail price. The model cost $400 more just a few days ago, and the previous record low was $150 higher. The discount stands out because Apple raised prices across the entire MacBook Pro lineup in June.

Why the timing matters

Rumors suggest Apple could unveil a new MacBook Pro with a touchscreen OLED display in about a week. If the reports prove accurate, it would be the most significant change to the lineup in many years. The new models are said to offer the same chip options as today's, namely the M5 Pro and M5 Max.

What the reviewer says

Wired's reviewer describes the M5 Max as a major upgrade over the M4 Max and the M5 Pro, offering graphics performance not previously seen on a MacBook. He recommends it for content creators, media professionals, engineers and AI enthusiasts. In his testing, the game Cyberpunk 2077 averaged more than 60 frames per second on the Ultra preset without relying on upscaling.

For stronger AI performance, 64 GB or 128 GB configurations are needed, but third-party retailers such as Amazon do not sell them. They must be bought directly from Apple, and the prices are high. The reviewer admits he cannot guarantee the deal will last and does not know what the new models will be like. If performance is the main interest, he says, the current offer could save a considerable amount of money.
